The Principles of Mathematics
Bertrand Russell wrote his first important book in 1903, called "The Principles of Mathematics". This book was considered an important contribution to logic, metaphysics, and the philosophy of mathematics. It argues that the notions and propositions of mathematics reduce to the notions and principles of logic. This book was considered "Volume 1". With the help of A.N. Whitehead, the subsequent work following Volume 1 would be published later in 1910 - 1913. -
Not allowed to teach in New York
In 1938 he went to the United States and during the next years taught at many of the country’s leading universities. In 1940, Bertrand Russell was no longer allowed to teach in New York due to a court case which accused him for being a propagandist against religion and morality. -
Agnosticism
Bertrand Russell declares himself as an agnostic. When asked about his religion, he states that it is difficult for him to say whether he is an agnostic or atheist. However, to an audience of philosophers, he would say he is agnostic due to the lack of proof that God exists.
