Self-Government
After colonialism, in 1961, Belize had a fully developed self-government. They had this type of government because at the time, there were so little people there that it worked better for them than other government types. -
HM Government
After Belize won their independence on September 21, 1981, they became a part of the British government, a Her Magesty's Government, also known as a monarchy. They switched to this type of government because after they won their independence, the United Kingdom took them under their wing because they were such a small country. Therefore, Belize had no choice but to follow their government. -
Parliamentary Democracy
Present day Belize has a Parliamentary Democracy. After they developed more and "seceded" from the United Kingdom, they chose this government type because, like the rest of Latin American countries, they are all working towards a democracy, like the U.S.
