    Out of fear that his people would turn to communism, South Korean President Syngman Rhee executes 100,000 people. It would be known as the Summer of Terror.
  • United States Gets Involved

    President Harry Truman sends troops to Korea. The U.S. and other countries in the United Nations join the war because they want to stop communism from spreading to South Korea.
  • Seoul

    Seoul
    North Korea captures Seoul, the capital of South Korea.
  • Arrival

    The first U.S. ground troops touch down in South Korea.
  • Battle of Osan

    Going into the battle, U.S. troops were expecting an easy win. They were surprised to find out that they were no match for the North Korean army.
  • Battle of Inchon

    Battle of Inchon
    General Douglas MacArthur leads an invasion into South Korea at the city of Inchon. From there, the United Nations troops go to Seoul and take it back from North Korea.
  • China Gets Involved

    China Gets Involved
    China joins the war to fight with North Korea. China's army, called the People's Volunteer Army, win several important victories and pushes the U.S. and South Korean troops back across the 38th parallel.
  • "Home by Christmas"

    "Home by Christmas"
    General MacArthur orders the United Nations forces to move to the Yalu River. MacArthur said the UN troops would be home by Christmas, but they are attacked by 180,000 Chinese soldiers and have to retreat.
