  • British discovery of Australia

    In 1770 Captain James Cook charted the east coast and claimed it for Britain. The new outpost was to put to use a penal colony. In 1770 more than 50 ships made landfall on Australia. After Cook claimed Australia he named the eastern coast New South Wales

    Captain Cook died on the 14th of February 1779 in Kealakekua Bay in Hawaii from being stabbed.
  • The First Fleet

    On the 26th of January the first fleet of 11 ships landed in Australia in Sydney Harbour carrying 1500 people half of them being convicts. The captain of the ship was Captain Arthur Phillip and it took them 259 days which is 8 months and 14 days.

    Bennelong was an aboriginal man who died on the 3rd of January 1813 and Kissing Point, New South Wales.
  • California Gold Rush

    The gold was found in Sutter's Mill in the beginning of 1848 and it reached its peak at 1852. Approximately more than 300,000 came to the territory during the goldrush. It was also the largest mass migration in American history.
  • American Civil War

    The civil war began in 1861 decades of simmering tensions between southern and northern states over slavery, states, rights and westward expansion. The war was fought between the United States of America and the Confederate states of America.
  • Unveiling the Statue of Liberty

    On october 28th 1886 the statue of liberty was unveiled at New York harbour. The statue stands 151 feet high on top of a 154 foot high pedestal.
  • Coca Cola was Invented

    On the 8th of may 1886 Dr John S Pemberton who was a pharmacist invented coca cola. He tried it out on customers at his local pharmacy where it was so popular it was selling for 5 cents a glass.
  • First Modern Olympics

    On the 6th of April 1896 the first modern olympics was held in Athens, Greece with people from 14 countries participating. These olympics held the first ever marathon. The race was won by Spyridon Louis.
