  • The Great Comet

    First seen: the comet was first seen by Abbe Chevalier at Lisbon.
    Charles Messier also spotted the comet on the 8th of January 1760 in Paris by the sword of Orion . The comet was his third discovery. He observed the comet for 6 days.
  • The Boston Massacre

    British troops fired into a rioting mob killing five american civilians. The british officer in charge (Thomas Preston) was arrested for manslaughter along with eight other men.
  • The Great Hurricane of 1780

    The islands of the Caribbean
    There was a powerful Storm that slammed the Islands of the Caribbean killing more than 20,000 people. This is known as The Great Hurricane of 1780 because it is still known for being one of the deadliest on record in the Atlantic Ocean.
  • The beginning of Australia Day

    This is the day that Australia day was created after Captain Arthur Phillip guided a fleet of 11 british ships carrying convicts to the colony of New South Wales, finally founding Australia. This event was agreed to be celebrated and this was the beginning of Australia Day.
  • The Death of Benjamin Franklin

    Benjamin Franklin was the founding father of the United States and died due to pleurisy at the age of 84.
  • The White House

    A design by the architect James Hoban was chosen and after eight years of construction the president John Adams and his wife Abigail Adams became the first residents on the first of November 1800. The White House still was not completed when the President and his wife moved in.
  • Australian Gold Rushes

    Australia was not yet a nation but still a number of separate British colonies, gold was discovered in a lot of places.In earlier days traces of gold had been found but were hushed by the government in fear that the convicts would abandon the settlements to seek their fortunes.After the word was spread there was over 400 people digging for there gold and by june there was 2000!

    Alexander Graham Bell was an american inventor, scientist and a teacher of the deaf who invented the telephone. His research on hearing and speech was influenced by his mother and wife who were both deaf. His work then led him towards experimenting with hearing devices. He wanted to create something better than the telegraph that could transmit sound from a far distance.
  • The death of Queen Elizabeth

    Her 63 year reign which was the longest in british history ended when she sadly passed away on 22nd January,1901 at the age of 82.
  • The first airplane flies

    In 1903, the dream of creating a real and flying airplane had come true for the Wright brothers when they created the first ever flyable airplane in history.
  • The Panama Canal opens to traffic

    The Panama Canal has been an important point for international shipping. On August 15 1914 the panama canal was officially able to start and be linked with the pacific ocean and the atlantic ocean.
