New people started to come into southernmost region of Africa prior to the European colonists, in which they were farmers and herders who spoke languages from a group known as "Bantu".As they lived in close proximity to each other they started making new cultures and languages in which made in possible to communicate with each other. -

Large conflicts between many countries caused the British to dispatch troops to the Cape and in time they captured Cape Town. Afterwards an Englishman stepped up for the humanity of South Africans.They then made a moral justification by arguing that British colonialism was more humane. -

Zulu a small group in the east under leadership of Shaka Zulu who came into power on this day and he would conquer over many groups yet those who wouldn't submit to him would fight or moved far, far away. -
Indian immigrants
Since British had abolished slavery Indians began to come into the land and they worked really hard and in harsh conditions yet they signed a contract to work for 5 years to be able to begin their new life but once their contract was coming to an end they were encouraged to leave or renew their contract in which most stayed. -

The new rulers of Cape had abolished slavery and so for Boers to maintain their way of life they moved north in search of new land out of British control the migration came to be known as "Great Trek". -
Gold,War, and Shifting Identities
When gold was discovered the British were very interested in large numbers of Europeans and elsewhere migrated to work in the mines. The British started investing in the mines and soon monopolized them. Afrikaners didn't like this on how it reflected on their identities and changed their governments to limit the British dominance. -

The discovery of diamonds and golds was made and this ended up increasing the world production 10x and they came to believe they were "Chosen people" who had been given territory as a new promised land. -
Indian immigrants
Indians then came to be 44.5% of the workforce outnumbering the white South Africans making a more free community for Indians. This led to European settlers pushing more restrictions on further immigrants. -
Black South Africans Organize
Prior to this time the Cape Colony gave voting rights to people based on if they owned property rather than their skin color. It was also the start of the Union of South Africa which was created by unification of the British colonies and Boer republics to then be known as the Republic of South Africa. -

During this time one of the most successful protest association had occurred called "the South African Native National Congress" for the reason of protesting the treatment of black South Africans. Which it's name was afterwards switched to ANC standing for the African National Congress. -
Afrikaner Nationalism
Afrikaners were fighting to replace the recognized language Dutch to the language they called "Afrikaans" which was a dialect of Dutch yet with many borrowed words from languages such as English, German, Portuguese, Malay, and Khoikhoi. -
Foreshadowing Apartheid
Segregation was reaffirmed in many acts passed during this time such as the Representation of Natives Act, the Native Trust and Land Act, and the Native Laws Amendment Act which helped them out a lot and gained them a lot back since the Englishmen. -
Afrikaner Nationalism
This was a time when there was a reenactment of the Great Trek for their 100th anniversary of Afrikaner victory over the Zulu in the Battle of Blood River. Afrikaners would revisit military victories over black South Africans. -
Foreshadowing Apartheid
The Herenigde National Party and its Afrikaner Party allies made South Africa's discriminatory laws much stronger and so the Apartheid system segregated the country's races while guaranteeing white minority being in dominance. -
