Beatrice Learns Piano
Beatrice decides when she is 10 years old that she wants to learn how to play piano like her dad. During Erikson's fourth stage of middle to late childhood, Beatrice grapples with the developmental challenge of industry versus inferiority. By embracing the skills she learns during her father's lessons, she begins to develop a sense of industry and pride in her abilties. -
Beatrice Marries Gregory
Beatrice marries her college sweetheart after graduating from the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in piano performance. She plays with a local orchestra and lives happily with her husband in a townhome in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They are considering having children. Together, Beatrice and her husband are facing Erikson's sixth developmental challenge of intimacy versus isolation. Together, they will build a life and face further developmental challenges. -
Beatrice Begins Teaching
Beatrice begins teaching at a local high school in a low-income neighborhood. Beatrice feels satisfied in her purposeful actions to help the younger generation. During middle adulthood, Erikson's developmental challenge is generativity versus stagnation and by helping the future generation, Beatrice focuses her attention outward onto caring for others and will proud of herself later in life.
