    Rick Rubin / Def Jam / Madonna Tour
    BB turns more towards hip hop, and hires Rick Rubin as their DJ. Rubin then forms Def Jam with Russell Simmons and becomes BB's producer. The band releases Rock Hard 12" on Def Jam, and begins a notoriously rowdy tour opening for Madonna.

    BB leaves New York and severs ties with Rubin and Def Jam. They head to LA to record and release the critically acclaimed and wildly influential Paul's Boutique. Note in pics of the band that they are far more tan and MCA has a goatee. Band has a more hipster style, and are often in or around the pool. Producers the Dust Brothers are Mike Simpson, John King, and at the time Matt Dike. Recorded largely at Dike's Hollywood apartment. Mario Caldato engineers, beginning a long collaboration.
