16 January, Darwin makes his first landing on a tropical shore at St Jago, Cape Verde Islands. Field notebooks begin to be used. In February 1832 - May 1834 the Beagle surveys the east coast of South America. In December arrives in Tierra del Fuego. -
February 1832 Crossing the equator
They crossed the equator, some crossed blindfolded. -
February 1832 Salvador, Brazil
Darwin explores Brazillain rainforests for the first time. -
1832 September Punta Alta, Argentina
Darwin is intrigued by the giant fossil bones. -
March 1833 Falkland Islands
Beagle visits Falkland Islands and finds the barren. -
August 1833 Rio Negro, Argentina
Darwin explores the fertile lowland areas known as "Pampas or Gauchos" There is independence of the gacho life. -
Beagle Voyage 1834
Early part of the year is spent surveying in Tierra del Fuego and another visit to the Falkland Islands. April to May Darwin and FitzRoy make an inland expedition along the River Santa Cruz. -
September-October 1835 Galapogos Islands
Darwin finds many species, plants, birds and tortoises unique to the Galapogos Islands.
