The Battle of the Bulge
The attack began on December 16th 1944 six inches of snow was on the ground it was very cold. Moving quickly the Germans caught us off guard. The Germans moved west their line bulged outward and the attack became known as The Battle of the Bulge. General Patton was ordered to rescue. Three days later mid snowstorm General Patton’s men hit the German lines. The weather cleared, Allied aircrafts began hitting German fuel depots. We won the battle. Germans withdrew with 100,000 casualties. -
The Battle of Iwo Jima
On November 24th 1944 bombs hit Tokyo. On February 19th 1945 60,000 Marines landed on Iwo Jima. Marines were up to their ankles in ash and were hit with Japanese artiliary. They headed inland hitting the Japanese bunkers with flamethrowers and explosives we lost 6,800 to trying to capture the island. Admiral Nimitz later wrote on Iwo Jima “uncommon valor was a common virtue”
