The Evacuation of Dunkirk
The evacuation took place in May 1940 and lasted until June 4th of 1940. The people involved with the evacuation were the british and the allied powers. About 198,000 British and 140,000 French and Belgian troops had been saved. Major people in the evacuation were Bertram Ramsay for the allieds. This was a result of hundreds of thousands of men saved while few left behing and gave germany a win the allied powers still left a sense of a boost of morale. -
Battle of Moscow
This battle began on April 30th, 1941 and ended January 7th 1942. The battle was between the Germans and the Soviet Union. Germany lost about 250 to 400 thousand dead or injured where as the Soviet lost 600,000-1,300,000 dead, wounded, or even captured. Georgy Zhukov led the soviet union and Walther von Brauchitsch was the leader of the Germans until Hitler took over. The battle ended in a significant defeat of the Germans, they got pushed back -
Pearl Harbor
The aerial attack on Pearl Harbor was December 7, 1941.
This was between the Japanese and the United states. There were 3,400 U.S casualties with more than 2,300 killed. Some major military leaders are Husband Edward Kimmel from the U.S and Yamamoto Isoroku the man on the japanese side that gave the final go to launch the planes and such. The outcome of the bombing of Pearl Harbor caused a severe cripple in the U.S navy and it gave a reason to enter into the war. -
The Battle of Midway
The battle of Midway lasted from June 3rd to the 6th of 1942. The Battle was between Japan and the United States. There were about 3,000 Japanese killed and only about 317 U.S men killed. The Japanese military leader was Yamamoto Isoroku, and the U.S leader was Chester W. Nimitz. The outcome of this battle was a U.S victory that led the Japanese to stop trying to expand into the Pacific and stay in the defensive side. -
The Battle of Stalingrad
the battle went from july 17, 1942 - Feb 2, 1943. The combatants were Russia and Germany. Russia was led by Vasiliy Chuikov and Germany was led by Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst Paulus. There were 1,100,000 USSR casualties and 500,000 German casualties. This battle was a Russian victory. -
Battle of Kursk
The Battle started on July 5th and ended August 23rd, 1943. The battle was between the Soviet Union and Germany. The Soviets lost about 800,000 whereas the Germans only lost about 200,000. The German military leader was Walter Model, and the Soviets was Joseph Stalin. At the end of the war it was a Soviet victory, the Germane lost more men but they weren't able to get through the Soviet forces. -
The Battle of Normandy (D-Day)
The battle of normandy lasted from June 6th - July 9th of 1944, The battle included the allied powers and germany.
Casualties for Germany were 320,000, including 30,000 killed, 80,000 wounded, and 210,000 missing. The Allied powers casualties of the Normandy Invasion were 550,200. Major military officers were Eisenhower and for germany Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt and Field Marshal Erwin Rommel. This battle helped turn the tide towards Germany. -

The Battle of Iwo Jima
The battle went from Feb 19, 1945 - March 26, 1945. The combatants were the U.S and Japan. The U.S was led by Holland M. Smith and the Japan was led Tadamichi Kuribayashi. There was 24,000 U.S casualties and 22,000 japanese casualties. The battle resulted in a U.S victory with 7 U.S soldiers remaining. -
The Battle of Berlin
This Battle lasted from April 16th, 1945 to May 2nd, 1945. The Battle was between the Soviet union and Germany. There were about 280,000 casualties with 80,000 dead for the Soviets and anywhere from 92 to 100,000 dead for the Germans. This battle was towards the end of the war as Hitler commited suicide on April 30th 1945
