The Confederates were the first ones to fire in Fort Sumter. The Confederates were demanding the Union to surrender or stay and attack. Lincoln abandoned Fort Sumter, but he enforced it. Virginia ended up succeeding and the North had lost one soldier and one was injured. The South faced no deaths. -

The battle at Bull Run was near Manassas Virginia. It was the first major battle of the civil war, and a confederate victory. The North had 3,000 casualties and the South had 1,750 casualties. -
Battle at Shiloh
Grant wanted to obtain Corinth, that if was obtained the Union would control the region. This was a Union victory and this helped prevent the South obtaining supplies. This was one of the bloodiest battles of the war. The Union had more than 13,000 casualties and the Confederates had more than 10,000 casualties. -
Battle at Richmond
The Confederate was victorious. The Union had been defending the town of Richmond, Virginia. This was the political home of the Confederates. The Union had 206 casualties, and the Confederates had 78 casualties. -
Battle of Antietam
This battle was a Union victory. 23,000 casualties on both sides. This was one of the bloodiest single days of the Civil War. The end result was the invasion of Antietam. This Union victory led to the Emancipation Proclamation. -
The Emancipation Proclamation
All slaves in the state that were currently engaged in rebellion against the Union became free. Though it was Lincolns personal wish that all men could be free, his official duty was was to save the Union and is not to save or destroy slavery. -

Battle at Gettysburg was considered the most important engagement of the civil war. It was described as the wars turning point. This was a Union victory. This battle had the largest casualties of the war. The Union had 23,049 casualties. The Confederates had 28,063 casualties. -
The Gettysburg Address
Abraham Lincoln had delivered this speech titled the Gettysburg Address. The purpose of the speech was to urge everyone to honor the soldiers that died at Gettysburg by striving to maintain the kind of nation imagined and made by our founding fathers. -
Surrender at Appomattox
The surrender at Appomattox was one of the last battles of the American Civil War. The results of the battle was the surrender of the Confederate army to the Union Army. Lee was the general that surrendered to the General Grant. There were 260 Union casualties and 440 Confederate casualties. -
The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
On April 14, 1865, five days after Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Court House, the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln and his wife went to a theater to see a comedy. During the play’s third act John Wilkes Booth crept up behind Lincoln and shot Lincoln in the head. He died the next day.
