Battle of Saratoga
This battle consisted of British General John Burgoyne and his 1,000 men vs. American General Horatio Gates and nearly 12,000 men. Burgoyne was received orders to advance down the Hudson river but Gates positioned his men in a blocking position to prevent the British from getting past. Burgoyne tried to sneak his men past the American forces but had no such luck and a battle followed until October 17th when Burgoyne surrendered his troops, needless to say this was an American victory. -
Battle Of Bunker Hill
The American suffered a loss to the British near Breed's hill. British Major General William Howe led 2,200 soldiers to Breed's hill to attack the outnumbered and ammunition lacking American's. This battle is most known for the famous quote by Colonel William Prescott, "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!" This was effective until the Americans were low on ammo and were finally overcome in a third and final push by the British. -
Battle of Trenton
On Christmas day Washington and men crossed the Delaware river and the next day they marched on to defeat a large group of Hessian mercenaries. -
Battle of Princeton
This battle took place in Princeton, New Jersey when Washington escaped the attack from Major General Cornwallis by leaving a fake camp and leaving in the night to prevent Cornwallis from encircling them. Washington's forces met Cornwallis's forces near Princeton. Although it was a close battle with both sides taking casualties it was ruled that Washington won this battle. -
Battle of Cowpens
General Morgan and 1,000 men vs British General Tarleton and his physically and mentally drained men. Morgan formed three lines with his men and Tarleton took the bait and attacked his forces. Tarleton's men were a formidable force but in the end in was a total American victory. -
Battle of Yorktown
George Washington commanded 17,000 against Cornwallis's 9,000 men. Washington surrounded Yorktown and Cornwallis's men and bombarded the British for three weeks until they surrendered.
