  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    -Desription- Two-day engagement between British forces under the command of General Thomas Gage and American forces under Colonel William Prescott. The Americans had occupied Breed's Hill in Charlestown on June 16, 1775, in order to protect the shipyard of nearby Boston. The next day, the British attacked. They took the hill but suffered heavy losses.

  • Battle of Long Island

    Battle of Long Island
    Description- First real battle between British and American forces. Also called the Battle of Long Island. Redcoats under Generals William Howe and advanced on New York and tried to trap the Americans in Brooklyn. General George Washington responded by holding his ground until nightfall and then retreating under cover of darkness.
    British General- William Howe.
    Contential General- George Washington.
    Victor- There wasn't any victor but the British did defeat Washington's forces.

    Battle of Trenton
    Desripction- Famous American victory that began with "Washington Crossing the Delaware." Lead to a sneak attack on the Birtish forces on Christmas night. When they attacked the British forces were caught of guard and lots were killed by Washington and his army.

    6,000 British soldiers vs. 8,000 American soldiers in war. This took place in Pennsylvania and the British lost 550 soldiers while Americans lost around 1,000

    - British planned to move south from Montreal to Albany. This battle went on for weeks and was the turning point of the Revolutionary War.

    - Both sides lost about 350 men who were killed, wounded or captured. There were about 10,000 British troops against 11,000 Americans.

    -Around 1,900 British against 4,400 Americans
    -The Americans opened fire as the British appeared at the edge of the first clearing
    -British were 550 dead and wounded
  • Battle of Yorktown

    -American General- George Washington
    -British General- Lord Cornwallis
    -There were 8,800 Americans, 7,800 French and 6,000 British
    -Both sides were armed with muskets and guns
    -The Americans began formal siege operations on the eastern side of Yorktown on the 30th of September
