Japanese Launch Sneak attack on Hong Kong Island
After days of waiting Japanese forces landed on Hong Kong Island under the cover of the night. They landed on the North-East part of the island and hoped to be able to make it to Wong Nai Chung Gap and seperate the two brigades. -
Battle for Wong Nai Chung Gap
Most of the day is spent by Japanese forces assualting Wong Nai Chung Gap. At 10 o'clock Japanese forces had surrounded the West Brigade headquarters, Commander of the west brigade John K.Lawson went out with two revolvers after telling his commander that he was going to try "fighting it out" He was killed and afterwards the Japanese gave him a proper burial as a respect of his courage. -
Hong Kong Surrenders to Japanese Forces
By Christmas it was clear that Hong Kong wasn't going to hold out. The decision was made to surrender. The surrender was made at the Peninsula Hotel. This was known as Hong Kong's "Black Christmas."
