  • Jackie Robinson Breaks the Color Barrier.

    Jackie Robinson's debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1947 was a massive move for baseball and society in general. This was a whole 8 years before the start of the civil rights movement, so segregation in baseball and all areas was super high. This set the tone and normalized baseball for many African Americans around the U.S.
  • Willie Mays Historical Catch

    In game 7 of the 1954 World Series, Willie Mays made a historical catch to save the game and secure his team's win. Just like Jackie Robinson, this set in stone that African Americans can play this game and they can play at the top level. This catch set the tone for so many other African Americans later in the game.
  • California gets its first two baseball teams.

    Caleofirna is a big state, and they made the move to draft and create 2 big organizations that would later move on to be two of the biggest organizations of all time. They became the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers. This move encouraged other big states and big players to come and be a part of this popular state.
  • Roger Maris sets the record.

    In 1961, the Yankees legend Roger Maris broke the record of the great Babe Ruth. He broke the MLB home run record and set a new one of 61.
  • The astro-dome opens.

    In 1965, the famous Houston Astros opened up their new field called the "Astro-Dome." This was important because it was the first closed-in, indoor baseball field. This later went on to become common in many fields, which helped more games be able to be played.
  • More records broken.

    In 1974, on the same day, Hank Arron of the Atlanta Braves broke Babe Ruth's home run record with 715. That same day, Pete Rose broke Ty Cobb's all-time hits record with 4,192.
  • The designated hitter rule is established

    In 1973 the designated hitter rule became a rule. This meant that you could set aside a hitter to hit for your pitcher. This was only established in the American League, which meant pitchers in the NL had to still be in the lineup.
  • Rose's lifetime ban

    Exactly five years later of his record-breaking season, Pete Rose was banned from baseball for a lifetime. He was banned for sports betting, which prohibited one of the best hitters of all time to not even really be able to get recognized, this made a lot of people upset.
  • Robinson is honored.

    In 1997, to honor the great Jackie Robinson, the number 42 was retired for all teams in the entire league. This was huge because it was the first time and the only time this would ever happen.
  • Father Son history

    In 1990 for the Seatle Mariners, father Ken Griffey, and son Ken Griffey Jr became the first father and son duo to play, and hit back-to-back home runs together.
  • The player strike

    In 1994 for the first time, there was no World Series held in the MLB. This was because commissioners tried to force a salary cap on players, which did not go through.
  • Baseball world wide.

    The Chicago Cubs and the New York Mets played their season opener in Japan. This was massive considering baseball was already so big in Japan, but this helped the game grow globally even more.
  • Steroid era

    In 2000, Barry Bonds, Mark Mcquire, and Sammy Sosa all broke the home run record of 61. But, all are not counted because of the steroid speculation. This was super important because it was the first real speculation of steroids, which so many people had used for years before this.
  • The great ring

    In 2016, the Chicago Cubs won the most amazing, exciting, and impressive World Series ever. They broke the longest drought of 108 years without a ring, the longest streak in baseball history.
  • The world classic.

    In March of this past year, the world baseball classic took a storm off all televisions all over the world. Outside of all MLB play, teammates went against each other, and everyone represented their homes.
