Declaration of Independence
The purpose was to basically declare the Americans independence. The preamble summarizes the philosophy of government that the Revolution supported. The first section talks about the three natural rights: Life, Liberty, and The Pursuit of Happiness. The second section talks about the right that the people have to abolish certain parts of the government if they would abuse their power. The third section talks about how the king has violated the the principles of government. -
Retreat from New York
The fighting shifted to the Middle States from New England. General George Washington had many casualties while the British had very few. The Americans were forced to retreat to New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Nathan Hale was an American spy. He was sent to spy on the British to gather intellegence about them before he was figured out, caught, and hanged by th British. They were in much trouble and needed to get as much help as they could get. -
