Prior to the voyage....
Bartholomew Gosnold attended Cambridge University before marrying in the late 1590s. In 1602 the ship was finished which Gosnold then commanded on a voyage of exploration to the New World. -
Bartholomew explores the new land
In the year 1602, Bartholomew Gosnold explored much of Maine and even Massachusetts. He was the man to give "Cape cod" it's name, he also named "Martha's vineyard" after his daughter. -
After returning from the voyage.....
After returning, Gosnold worked to promote the colonization of North America, and after James I had granted the Virginia charter in 1606, Gosnold was appointed vice admiral of the London Merchants’ fleet of three ships that sailed from England on December 20 of that year. But Gosnold soon died during an epidemic of malaria, and in 2003 his remains have thought to have been found just outside the historical settlement.
