Published the First Genetic Map of Maize
In1931Barbara and Harriet Creighton published "A Correlation of Cytological and Genetical Crossing-Over in Zea mays" in the National Academy of Sciences. -
Elected President of the Genetics Society of America
Despite McClintock's early career struggles, her publication record was outstanding and other scientists respected her. In 1944 the prestigious scientific organization the National Academy of Sciences elected her as only the third woman member, and in 1945 the Genetics Society of America elected her president (she had served as vice president in 1939). -
The Origin and Behavior of Mutable Loci in Maize
McClintock wrote a paper, "The Origin and Behavior of Mutable Loci in Maize," published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in 1950. However, it went unnoticed at the time. -
Received Kimber Genetics Award
McClintock finally began to receive accolades for the discovery she first reported in 1950. The National Academy of Sciences gave her its Kimber Genetics Award in 1967 -
Received the MacArthur Laureate Award
She received the award for basic medical research. -
Nobel Prize
Barabara recieved the Nobel Prize in physiology. -
R.I.P Barabra
Barabra died on June 16, 1982.
