CHILDHOOD
Barack Obama spent most of his childhood years in Honolulu, where his mother completed college after his parents divorced. Obama started a close relationship with his maternal grandparents. In 1965, his mother remarried to Lolo Soetoro from Indonesia. Two years later, Dunham took Obama with her to Indonesia to reunite him with his stepfather. In 1971, Obama returned to Honolulu to attend Punahou School, from which he graduated in 1979. -
HIGH SCHOOL
In 1971, Obama returned to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents, Madelyn and Stanley Dunham. He attended Punahou School— a private college preparatory school— with the aid of a scholarship from fifth grade until he graduated from high school in 1979. In his youth, Obama went by the nickname "Barry" -
COLLEGE
He had turned 18 a few weeks earlier. The afro he started at Punahou School had grown a bit fuller, but was under control. He was Barry Obama, freshman, from Honolulu.
It was autumn 1979 when Obama arrived at Occidental College, a small liberal arts college in Los Angeles. The campus was much like his school in Honolulu, with gentle slopes and flowering landscapes. Its academic expectations were equally high and the weather in southern California sunny. -
WHEN OBAMA GOT MARRIED.
The Wedding: On October 3, 1992, Michelle and Barack said "I do" at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. The bride's brother walked her down the aisle, while the groom's brother served as best man. After the vows, a reception was held at the South Shore Cultural Center. Of course, self-professed Stevie Wonder super fan Michelle chose the singer's "You and I" for their first dance as husband and wife. After the wedding, the couple took off for a California-coast honeymoon. -

Death of Osama bin Laden/ U.S. presidential address
President Obama recalled the victims of the September 11 attacks. He praised the nearly ten-year-old war against al-Qaeda, which he said had disrupted terrorist plots, strengthened homeland defenses, removed the Taliban government, and captured or killed scores of al-Qaeda operatives. Obama said that when he took office he made finding bin Laden the top priority of the war. Bin Laden's death was the most significant blow to al-Qaeda so far but the war would continue.
