the first baptism took place in 1st century ce when john the Baptist was asked to baptize Jesus by submerging him in to a river. Jesuses apostles then spread this and baptized many others. -

after Jesus was baptized, the apostles of Jesus spread Jesus message and word of Jesus by baptizing many of the public. During this time this ritual of purification became a symbol for entry into Christianity. -

middle ages
during this time the christen ritual of baptism became common for infants much like it is today. the sacrament was also simplified during this time period. some christens from this time to the 16th century some christens rejected this ritual. -
present day
today baptism takes place at a church and involves a priest splashing holy water or the recipient of the baptism.
