Dunkirk Evacuation
Evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk, France. British, French, and Belgian troops were cut off by the Germans after the Battle of Dunkirk. 340,000 Allied troops escaped and the rest were forced to surrender. -

A major naval battle in the Pacific Theater that stoped Japanese expansion to Australia. Japanese and U.S. ships never see each other because it was done completely by aircraft carriers. -
Battle of Midway
The most important battle in the Pacific Theatre. The Japanese wanted to lure U.S. aircraft carriers into a trap. Thanks to American codebreakers, the U.S. had the upper hand and sunk 4 Japanese aircraft carriers. -
Operation Torch
Although the Soviet Union wanted the U.S. and Britain to open a second front by starting invading France to reduce German forces in Soviet land, the U.S. and Britain invade Northern Africa to get control over the Mediterranean Sea. -
D-Day
160,000 Allied troops invade the heavily fortified beaches of Normandy, France. Over 9,000 Allied soldiers died in the battle in the fight against Nazi Germany. -
Battle of Saipan
The U.S. invade Saipan with 15 battleships. The U.S. defeat the Japanese and ask for their surrender in Saipan. The Japanese decide to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff instead of surrendering. This sends a message to the U.S. that they are not willing to give up the war. -
Battle of the Bulge
One of the greatest battles in U.S. history. Over 200,000 German troops decide to attack with everything the Allied troops after their victory on D-Day. After the German defeat, Hitler would be unable to an offensive attack on such a scale. -
Roosevelt's Death
America's longest serving president, died during WW2 from a cerebral hemorrhage. Harry S. Truman took office after his death. -
Death of Adolf Hitler
During the Battle of Berlin, Hitler commited suicide by gunshot. His wife also commited suicide that same day. -
VE Day
The Allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of the forces of Nazi Germani. This victory happened on President Harry Truman's 61st birthday. -
Little Boy
Little Boy, first nuclear bomb used to attack Japan. It killed 90,000-166,000 people in Hiroshima. -
Fat Man
Fat Man, 2nd atomic bomb detonated in Japan. Killed 60,000–80,000 people in Nagasaki.
