    On December 12, 1941, the Japanese launched a surprise attack on an American naval base in Hawaii. Around 2,400 people were killed in the Pearl Harbor attack, (including civilians), and 1,000 people were wounded. This event was the reason for America joining the allies in World War II.

    D-Day was the largest naval, air, and land battle in history as of that time. Troops from the allies came together and stormed the beaches of Normandy. This began their march through Germany, which eventually won them the war.

It killed 80,000 instantly, then thousands later due to the high radiation. Japan, however, did not surrender until three days after, when the city of Nagasaki was bombed as well.
