Syntactic Structures
Chomsky’s Syntactic Structures pushes a slightly tweaked version of transformational grammar, mainly in response against post-Bloomfieldian structuralism. Chomsky’s TG reveals the relationship between sentences through two categories, a “deep structure” and a “surface structure”. The usage of these two is helpful in explaining ambiguous ideas and understanding the processing of grammatical knowledge in the human brain, (Mambrol, 2021). -
Manufacturing Consent
Created with his fellow colleague Edward S. Herman, Noam Chomsky’s Manufacturing Consent critiques mass media and reveals the manipulation of news delivered to the masses. Chomsky unveils the intentional skewing of media by the upper class who, through news outlets, would deliberately change information in order to control the opinions of their audiences. This book is still considered to be one of Chomsky’s most popular works, because of its timeless message that can be applied to any era. -
Who Rules the World?
Who Rules the World is one of Noam Chomsky’s more political works and touches on a broad range of subjects, including the Israel-Palestine conflict and the threat of war with Iran. Chomsky claims the response to the attack on September 11 may have had different intentions rather than attempting to secure American citizens. His perspective on foreign policy and allows for engagement with domestic and foreign manifestation of American power, (Mcgilvray, 2021). -
