Started Preschool
I grew up speaking Chinese at home and this was a scary time for me to go to school because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to talk to the other people in English. I studied and read a lot at home to get ready. -
7th Grade
During this time a lot of my friends were getting into advanced classes and I wanted to be with them, so I started studying a lot harder in school and turned my C's and D's into A's and B's. -
Wrote My First Real Essay
By 8th grade I felt I wrote my first good essay, which involved researching a topic, looking up sources, including quotes in my paragraphs, and a proper works cited page. I learned a lot about writing from this assignment even though it was hard. -
Working at Family Restaurant
I was 14 when I started working at the restaurant my parents owned. I was responsible for cleaning up and counting the money at the end of the day. I learned a lot about responsibility and finishing my work on time and well to balance my schedule between school and work. -
Met My Best Friend
I met my best friend in math class during my second year of high school. We have a lot in common and still talk to this day 12 years later. -
Graduated High School
By the time I finished high school I felt that I was ready for college after taking my SATs twice to get a good score on it. I found out I got into UC Davis and I was excited to go with my friends. -
Became Used to College Workload
My first year in college was a struggle, because I think high school was easy enough for me that I did not have to study much. But I had to study a lot in college to raise my GPA. It always pays to be prepared! -
Began Teaching
Teaching is my first job out of college and I have learned a lot about how students work, what is expected of adults, and how to organize materials in my five years since teaching. I may want to switch jobs in the future but for right now teaching has been the best job I've ever had.
