    In 1865 a man named Stephen Roper from Frances town in New Hampshire built the first steam engine automobile. The automobile worked on four wheels. Any vehicle that had three wheels was considered to be an automobile. Mr. Roper had been experimenting for years until the day came that he invented the two-seater steam engine automobile. The engine had a two-horsepower steam engine with miles per hour ranging from 2-25 miles per hour.

    A few years down the road in 1885 Karl Benz invented a motor vehicle car that ran on gasoline. This vehicle was a two-seater having a high speed single cylinder engine. This was a significant impact on society as a new way of transportation.

    In 1896 Henry Ford builds the Quadricycle which was the first four wheeled vehicle powered by a four-horsepower engine. The car did not have a steering wheel but had a tiller which was a level used to control the direction of the car. This car was built in Detroit, Michigan and was more in the market for the wealthy people.

    In 1915 the Ford Model T came out that was built by Henry Ford in Detroit and Highland Park Michigan. This car was affordable for most average American workers and not just the wealthy. The average price for the car was $850. The engine generated 20 horsepower with a speed increasing to forty to forty-five miles per hour.

    In 1918 a five passenger car old’s motor works was built in Michigan. The car had four doors and a six-cylinder car engine with a horsepower of nineteen. The car had levers close to the steering wheel giving the driver easy access within easy reach. The car sold a little less than $1200 dollars, but more directed towards the wealthy for purchasing
  • 1928 Model A

    1928 Henry Ford released the new Ford model, replacing the old Model T with a Model A. The Model A roadster had a two door which had a folding top and seated about four people in the car. This car was a lot more powerful than the other cars and had a forty-horsepower engine which had twice the horsepower than the Model T. The Model A also had a three-gear speed transmission that increased to sixty-five miles per hour.
