  • The first crude electric automobile created

    Robert Anderson develops the first crude electric automobile. It isn't until the 1870s that electric automobiles are actually practical.
  • The first ever true gas powered automobile

    Karl Benz was the first person to make the automobile commercially available in 1885. The model was named 'Benz Patent-Motorwagon'. It featured a one-cylinder, four-stroke engine which produced 0.75 hp.
  • The assembly line

    Ransom E. Olds invented the assembly line in 1901. The assembly was extremely important in the automotive industry, because it sped up the automobile assembly process drastically. Ford was the first car company to ever use the assembly line for mass production of the Model T in 1913. The assembly line had 84 steps to fully assemble the automobile. Before the assembly line it took roughly 12 hours to build a single Model T. With the assembly line it only took 90 minutes to assemble the Model T.
  • The introduction of Ford

    Ford was introduced on June 16th, 1903 and the founder was Henry Ford. Ford is important to the automotive industry because Ford changed automobiles and society forever.
  • General Motors was founded

    William Durant was the man who founded General Motors. General Motors has four primary car companies; Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC. General Motors dominated for some time in the early 1900s, but was surpassed by Ford Motor company because of the success of the Ford Model T during that time. General Motors and Ford competed against each other for years to sell people the cheapest and most practical automobile.
  • The Ford Model T was developed

    The Ford Model T changed the automotive industry forever. The Model T was evolutionary and it was what the common man would want in an automobile, it was cheap at the time, and it had everything you really needed during then. More then 15 million Model Ts were sold from its production from 1908-1927.

    Automobiles during 'The Roaring Twenties'

    Social and economic circumstances underwent some major changes in America. People in the U.S during the 20s were able to spend much more money on entertainment and luxuries than ever before. And as the automobile during the time gained more and more popularity, more people bought automobiles because they were considered to be a luxury, and it was a faster way to get around. By 1929 there were over 26 million automobiles registered in the U.S.
  • America changes to fit the automobile

    During the 1920s, America notices a mass production of automobiles through out the country. Because of the amount of automobiles were being produced, roads and highways were created and they were almost everywhere, also the landscapes changed so that people could practically go anywhere they would want to go in their automobile.
