Van Diemen's land
In 1825 people founded Van Diemen's land where the people who committed crimes in Australia went to Van Diemen's Land. -
Claiming New Holland
In 1831 the British Government claimed New Holland. It was then called Western Australia, people went there to do cheap labour and develop the economy. -
South Australia
In 1836 the British founded South Australia. It was taken from the southern part of New South Wales. -
North Australia
In 1847 the British founded North Australia, although they were expanding it since the 1820s. -
Victoria
In 1851 the colony of Victoria was separated from New South Wales. The border was along the Murray River. -
Queensland
In 1859 Queensland was created continuing the The eastern South part of the Australian border separating it from New South Wales. -
The panhandle
In 1861 South Australia was expanded to the West Australia border. -
The final stage
In 1862 Queensland's western border was moved further west.
In 1863 the north of New South Wales was added to South Australia.
