Australian Federation and White Australia policy.
The federation of Australia was when the six seperate British-governing colonies of New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia formed one single nation combined.
The White Australia policy is the stage when the Australian Federation did not let any person that could not speak English enter Australia. -
Start of World War I.
When Australia was still in the alliance with Great Brittain, both Australia and New Zealand were sent to Europe, Gallipoli and Egypt to fight the German forces. -
End of World War I
At the end of the war, the four major imperial forces; the German, Russian, Ottoman Empires and Austro-Hungarian; were politically and militarily defeated, and the defeat of the German forces led to World War II. -
Beginning of World War II
World War II is considered one of the worlds biggest military conflicts in history, involving the majority of the globe. This war was originally started by the Nazi's, but Australia's involvement consisted of our alliance with britain at the time. Australia only became considered endangered when Japan attempted to invade and take over Australia. However the Japanese were unsuccessful in this, as the Americans had created a nucleur bomb that damaged two cities in Japan, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. -
End of World War II
World War II ended when the Japanese surrendered unconditionally, due to horrific bombing. The war in Europe ended when the German city of Berlin was captured by Soviet and Polish troops. -
Signing of the SEATO Treaty
This is when Australia and New Zealand became allies with America, as the British forces did not seem to be not as reliable as the American forces. -
Start of the Vietnam War.
Even though the war began in 1955, Australia did not become involved until our Allies, America did in the early 1960's. -
Stolen Generation
The 'Stolen Generation' is one of Australia's most devistating events. The aboriginal children in the 1970's were taken away from their families, and the Government attempted to make Aboriginal children act, and be brought up to be civilised Australians, and to be more similar to white people. -
Neville Bonner elected to parliament.
Neville Bonner was the first aboriginal person to be elected to federal parliament as a senator. This is considered a major factor in Australia's history, as not long before, Aboriginals were treated as outcasts. -
Conclusion of White Australia Policy.
This is when the Australian Government abolished the law 'only people that could speak english could immigrate in Australia', in excahange for the allowance of all cultures being permitted in Australia. -
Conclusion of Vietnam War.
The U.S.A's involvement in the Vietnam War ended in 1973, since Australia is in an alliance with the U.S, Australia was no longer needed to fight in Vietnam. -
Neville Bonner Concludes in Parliament.
The first Aboriginal in Parliament ended in Parliament in 1983, spending 10 years in it. He provided a voice for his people, and helped the Aboriginals be treated more equally than previous years. -
Beginnning of Gulf War
The Gulf War was led by the U.S.A and Iraq leading the war to free Kuwait from Iraqi invaders. Like previous years, Australia was only involved because of the alliance with the U.S.A. -
Conclusion of the Gulf War
Only lasting a year, Australia's participation ended in 1991. -
Mabo decision.
This event is when Australia's law was rewritten, as decided by the High Court. This made a major impact on the recognition of Aboriginal land rights. -
Native Title Act
Following the Mabo decision in the previous year, Aboriginal organisations and land councils argued to the federal government to protect any native title that had lasted over 200 years of colonisation. -
Start of Iraq War
Also known as the secondary Gulf War, Australia was yet again sent to fight, because of the alliance with America. -
Kevin Rudd's apology to the Stolen Generation.
Acknwoledging the pain and suffering from the Stolen Generation, former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd officially apologised to the Aborigines. -
First female Prime Minister
Australia recently achieved their first female Prime Minister, when Julia Gillard overthrew the previous prime minister, Kevin Rudd, and represents the Labor Party. -
Start of the Afghanistan War
The start of this war occured after the September 11 attacks, and is currently still happening.
