Arrival of the first fleet
In 1788 11 British ships sailed to the new found land of Australia.
Six of them carried convicts, two carried naval escorts and three carried food and supplies. These ships were going to start a new colony in Australia. -
Smallpox destroys aboriginal tribes
Smallpox impacts the aboriginal poulation, apparently travelling down from the northern coast of the continent. This dreadful disease wiped out many aboriginal tribes. -
The arrival of the second fleet
On the third of June the second fleet made up of six ships arrives in Sydney Cove. They finally arrive with supplies to end the starve of the colony. The people of the first colony finally have some more supplies. -
The Second Colony of Van Diemans Land
In 1803 a second colony is established in Van Diemans Land which is now known as Tasmania. -
The Bathurst Gold Rush
The very first major gold rush in Australia happened in 1851 in a small town called Ophir near Bathurst. The first gold here was discovered by Edward hargraves who then went back to Sydney to tell others of his discovery. Within days over 100 workers were out mining for gold. -
NSw is taken over by Marine Officer Francis Grose
In 1902 NSW is taken over by Marine Officer Francis Grose, commander of the new 'rum corps'. The Officers used convicts as front men for thier operations.
