Australia feared that their colonies may be taken over by France and Germany. They needed a bigger defence force to protect themselfs. -

1891 to 1894 george reid foughrt against federation when he worked as an oppostion leader in the new south whales parliament. -
John Quick
He suggested that the peole in each colonie will vote on it in a referendum in 1895 conference in Hobart the premiers in each colony agreed to go ahead with John Quick's suggestion of a constitution. -
1893 Corwa Conference
Corowa Conference 1893
The Federation Leagues and Australian Natives Association worked to promote federation to the people. In 1893, a conference was held on the banks of the Murray River at Corowa, New South Wales. -
Peoples Covention
A peoples convention was held and the constitution was changed. -
Sir Samuel Griffith
Sir Samuel Griffith was the main author of Australia's constition and the premier of Queensland. -
Constitution Referendum
Referendums asking people to say 'yes' or 'no' to the proposed Australian Constitution were held in each of the Australian colonies between 1898 and 1900. This was one of the most important steps in the process of Federation. -

The final constitution was writen up. The main of the constitution was Sir Samuel Griffith. -
Sir Edmund Barton
Sir Edmund Barton helped write the draft of the constitutio in1891 and attended all the Federal conventions. He became Australia's first prime minister on the first of January 1901. -

All around Australia people celebrated and arches were built to remember Federation. parades were held and people cheered they parades had floats and stalls. It was truely a big part of Australian history -
Queen Victoria died
Queen Victoria sadly passed away on the 22 of January 1901 -
Australia's First caot of arms.
The first official coat of arms of Australia was granted by a Royal Warrant of King Edward VII in 1908. This coat of arms was used on some Australian coins even after it was superseded in 1912, and last appeared on the sixpenny piece in 1966. -
Canberra
Canberra was named Canberra exactly 200 years ago. they had to make a new city to put the parliament house in because Melborne and Sydney were fighting over the location for the new parliament house for all of Australia.
