The convicts came later in the colony's set up. Why the convicts came was because the prisons where too full, and Britain was filling up with a bunch of thugs. -
first fleet arrival
On the 20th of January 1788 the first fleet pulled in to botany bay, Australia. They had 8 ships sailing in. Captain cook set foot on Australia and planted a flag into the ground. He wanted to claim the whole east coast of Australia as "British land". -
The aboriginal people
As soon as the colony was in Australia the Eora people were defensive and violent. They wanted to protect their land. Pemulwuy fought for their land as well as all the other aboriginals. -
The defense
During a meeting with the Eora nation, at manly, Arthur Phillip got speared. However, he recovered quickly and, even with the warning the aboriginals made, he continued as the colony's governor for two more years.
