Australia declares war on Germany
Prime Minister Robert Gordon Menzies said to his people that Australia was going to go to war with Germany. A couple of days earlier Germany invaded and tried to take over Poland and as a response to this Britain and France had declared a war against Germany. As Australia is Allies with Britain, they joined the war to back up Britain and France. -
Conscription introduced into Australia
Conscription was a ballot to decide which men went to war. this meant that unmarried men aged 21 had to do three months of military training, however, they could only serve in Australian countries when they had finished training. in 1942 men aged 18-35 and unmarried men aged 35-45 had to join the Citizens Military Forces and go under hard situations and conditions to be trained. -

Australian fighter pilots participate in the Battle of Britain
Only 25 Australian soldiers were considered to take part in the Battle of Britain. Out of these people only 8 were selected to become air aces. They shot down more than 5 enemy pilots and aircrafts. the rest were command pilots. A total of 537 Fighter Command pilots died and at least 10 of them were Australian soldiers. 4 more Australian soldiers from the Royal Australian Airforce also died. -
Australia declares war on Japan
After Japan dropped a bomb on Hawaii on the 7th of December, Prime Minister John Curtin said to the people of Australia that they had now begun war on Japan. this was the first time Australia had Independently declared war on another independent nation. In June 1942 Australia had almost 100,000 men enlisting to fight for their country. -
Singapore surrenders
Japanese armies bombarded through Singapore as Australia were too weak, however Australia were still apart of this time as they were still there. After the Japanese soldiers pushed through Singapore the Singapore soldiers decided that they were not strong enough and the British commander Lieutenant-General Arthur Percival showed their white flag. -
Japanese aircraft bomb Darwin
The Japanese army had two attacks, which were aimed on Darwin. They were launched from four Japanese aircraft-carriers in the Timor Sea. They had two big cruisers, one light cruiser, seven destroyers, three submarines and two other big cruisers that stayed a little bit away from the scene. -
Japanese midget submarines attack Sydney Harbour
Five large Japanese submarines came into Sydney. an E14Y Glen float-plane shooted out from one of the submarines and flew over the Harbour. HMAS Canberra sunk in Battle of Savo Sea
On this day The Royal Australian Navy's heavy cruiser HMAS Canberra sunk. It was damaged a lot during the battle off Savo island in the Solomon Island group as the Japanese naval force had a surprise bomb attack. -

Battle of El Alamein
The battle of El Alamein was a war between the British Empire and the German-Italy army. The Australians were on the British Empire side and worked together with New Zealanders, Indians, South Africans and some French and Greek armies. however, the Allied air superiority had the same, maybe even more men to stand their ground and the war resulted in the Allied winning. -
Australians capture Brunei
Australian troops landed at Brunei, Borneo at the 10th of June 1945. the Australians then proceeded to capture and take the Brunei people from their homes. The Australians were successful in taking over Brunei and getting control over the country. 30,000 Australian army troops took part in this action as they needed a large amount of people to fully take over the country. -
Japanese surrender signed
The leaders from the Japanese Government and forces all gathered together at the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay where they signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender. This ended World War 2. Only 8 paragraphs of writing was the thing to end World War 2. the Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu and Genral Yoshijiro signed the forms for the Japanese and Chief of the Army Genral Staff and Genral Douglas MacArthur took their surrender.
