The Invasion of the Rhineland
Germany was in control of the Rhineland, but were not allowed to put any troops in it. When Hitler invaded the Rhineland, he was breaching the rules of the Treaty of Versailles, and while doing so, he was intimidating other countries, especially France, showing that he was ready for battle. -

The Anschluss with Austria
The union between Germany and Austria, was not made by free will. Hitler forced both the Austrian Chancellor and President into letting Germany into Austria. Germany invading simply meant that their empire grew, they had more people and soldiers, and more land aswel as resources. -
The Munich Conference
The agreement said that Germany could have the Sudetenland, which Hitler had demanded, and after this, Hitler had started to make plans to take all of Czechoslovakia. -
The Invasion of Poland
The Germans had crossed the border and invaded Poland, which was a somewhat 'easy task' as neither France or Britain were prepared to fight against the Germans to prevent them from invading. This also helped the German Empire to expand giving it more soldiers and land. -
Australia declares war
Once Britain and France had declared war, Australia had also declared war to help out the Mother Country, and R.G.Menzies saying it was his "melancholy duty" to declare war. -
The Allied Declaration of War
After Germany had invaded Poland, Britain, along with it's allied nations, and France declared war on Germany. This marked the beggining of World War Two. -
1st bombing of Darwin by Japan
This was the first time that mainland Australia came under attack, with most military facilities in Darwin destroyed. -
Battle of Coral Sea
It was a battle between USA and Australia, against Japan. This was the first aircraft carrier battle ever fought, and the first battle were ships did not fire directly at eachother. In terms of victory, Japan had destroyed more ships. -
Sydney attacked by Japanese
This was not only an attempt to destroy the Australian navy, but also the US navy, British and other allies. -
Battle of Kokoda
Known to be the most significant battle fought by Australians in World War two. The soldiers had to fight in appaling conditions, but the Australians still managed to force the Japanese to withdraw.
