Gold is found at several locations, leading to gold rushes through out the decade. The population increased in ten years pass the million mark and aborigines were treated very poorly and their population dropped. -

National referendum on charges to the constitution is passed. Which excluded aboriginal people from official census is removed, another change enables federal government to pass laws on aboriginal issues. -

The Aboriginal land rights act is passed . It is a legal turning point for aborigines, giving them the right to make claims on their ancestral land in northern territory nine years later. Uluru is returned to aborigines. -
