The Black War is the term applied to the hostilities between Aboriginies and European settles and the settlers of Tasmania. It resulted in a virtual extermination of the original Aboriginal population on the island. -
The Gold Rush
In February 1851, a man named Hargrave found gold in New South Wales. The word spread quickly and within a week there were over 400 people digging for gold. By June there were a total of 2000! Some people found lots of gold and got rich, but most didn't. This is called the Gold Rush.
