building of Auschwitz
The construstion began fairly quickly in Auschwitz. It was originally suppose to be a prison for political prisoners. When the building was finished Hitler made it a death camp for the Jewish people put in there during the war. -
The First
The first prisoners arrive at the camp. They are polish political prisoners. The Germans ushered them into Auschwitz but they never intened the camp to become a death camp. -
The Funding of Auschwitz
A rubber plant was put into the camp. It was there in order to make the camps a functioning part of the war. The prisoners of the camp would make shoes, clothes and tires for the soldiers fighting. -
Killing
When German invades the Soviet Union they capture many prisoners. They bring thses prisoners to Auschwitz and are mixed in with Jews. By this time the camp has killed 1.5 million jews. -
The First Victims
The first victims at Auschwitzs were not even Jewish. The first victims were Russian prisoners and were killed in the most humane way for the Germans. They were killed by Zyklon B gas. -
The Second Part
The second part of the camp starts to be built. The camp is built by Russian prisoners of war. After the Allies bombed Germany the Germans moved Jews into the already crowed Auschwitz waiting for the second part to finish. -
The Liquidation
Himmler orders the liquidation of Jews and the expantion of Auschwitz. The french also agree to get rid of any Jewish gettthos. This was after the Germans took over France. -
Doctors
Dr. Josef Mengele arrives at Auschwitz, where he conducts brutal medical experiments on prisoners. They used these experiments to just do brutal experiments. They were no specific reasons they just wanted ti inflict pain. -
Killing More than Living
Rudolf Höss returns to Auschwitz to plan for the annihilation of Hungarian Jews. Nearly 440,000—half of the Jews in Hungary—are sent to Auschwitz. Many are gassed within days of their arrival. -
The Discovery
Soviet troops liberate Auschwitz. Only a few thousand prisoners remain. The soviets were appaled at what they found at the camp. What was left of the prisoners were mainly just bones. The German troops had fled earlier and ;eft them there to die on their own.
