After the Census Augustus decided to make the senate smaller. He reduced the size of the senate from 1000 to 800. He was appointed president of the Senate. -
Augustus becomes Imperator
Augustus was hailed as Imperator and given his new name Augustus. He had finally restored Peace to Rome. The senate made him head of political and religious affairs. Augustus had control over the entire empire but did not make the mistake that Caesar did, he instead thought of himself as a representative. -
The Battle of Actium
Octavian set out for Egypt to battle mark Antony and Cleopatra. The Romans were outnumbered but had quick and light ships while the Egyptians had heavy and well armed ships. The Romans won. After this battle Cleopatra fled and Mark Antony fallowed, even though he still had a massive amount of troops. In fleeing he lost all of them. Antony committed suicide and Cleopatra was sent to prison where she then killed herself also. -
Mark Antony Marries Cleopatra
Mark antony was seduced by Cleopatra and ended up marrying her. This ended up working against him because his priorities were wrong. Antony could have won the war at Actium if he hadn't fleed and stayed and fought. -
Battle of Philippi
In 42 B.C. Augustus’ armies fought the armies of Brutus and Cassius.Augustus won the battle and both Brutus and Cassius killed themselves. Augustus felt it necessary to claim his inheritance as heir of Caesar. Everyone close to him tried to stop him from claiming his inheritance because the enemies of Caesar were very powerful.
