    Auguste Comte was born on January 19, 1798 in Montpellier, France. He was born into the era of the French Revolution and as modern science and technology developed the Industrial Revolution. Comte's father was a government tax official and both his mother and father were monarchists and devout Roman Catholics.
  • Start of Positive Philosophy

    Auguste started giving lectures on positive philosophy. Two well known scientists attended these lectures, Fourier and Poinsot.
  • Course in Positive Philosophy

    In 1830, Auguste Comte started developing his course on Positive Philosophy. He explains positivism in three different theoretical conditions: the theological/fictitious, the metaphysical/abstract, and the scientific/positive.
    Theological: describes the human mind seeking essential nature of beings. All causes and effects to absolute knowledge.
    Metaphysical: Explanation of the phenomena by modification
    Positive: The mind of absolute notions, origin and destination of the univers and the cause
  • Course on Positive Philosophy is Published

  • Theory of Knowledge

    Auguste develops the theory of knowledge and scientific reasoning. He introduces epistemology which is the study of nature, origin, and limits to human knowledge.
  • System of Positive Polity

    After the death of Comte's lover, he wrote the System of Positive Polity which is "religion of humanity." He proposed that religion is based on reason and humanity with an emphasize of morality.
  • Death

    Auguste Comte passed away on September 5, 1857 in Paris, France due to Stomach Cancer.
