Comte develops his theory of positivism, which is the "theory that theology and metaphysics are earlier imperfect modes of knowledge and that positive knowledge is based on natural phenomena and their properties and relations as verified by the empirical sciences". The Law of Three Stages
This major conceptualization of Comte is discussed in his works, but I felt it was important to add to the timeline because it was such a large philosophical revelation. The laws are his framework for understanding society. They are Theological, Metaphysical, and Positive State. Course in Positive Philosophy
In this work, comprised of 6 volumes, Comte discusses how he constructs the idea of sociology which he says is the "science of society". He explains the importance of sociology as it relates to scientific philosophy. This work also explains the laws under which society operates and relates these laws to those in the scientific world. Clotilde de Vaux
I believe it is important to mention Clotilde in this timeline because her relationship with Comte had a profound influence on his later works. After her death, his work System of Positive Polity was the completion to his ideology and discussed morality and political organization. -
