    Auguste Comte, in full Isidore-Auguste-Marie-François-Xavier Comte, (born January 19, 1798, Montpellier, France—died September 5, 1857, Paris), French philosopher known as the founder of sociology and of positivism. In 1826 Comte began a series of lectures on his “system of positive philosophy, the doctrine formulated by Comte asserts that the only true knowledge is scientific knowledge. Knowledge which describes and explains the coexistence and succession of observable phenomena.
