  • The first method of recording and playing back sound-Phonographs

    The phonographs were the first method of recording sound and playing it back. The phonograph was invented by Thomas Edison.
  • Gramophone Record

    The gramophone record was invented in 1895 by Emile Berliner, it was the first recording device.
  • Radios

    Radios were invented in 1896 by Guglielmo Marconi. Radios are related to telephones and telegraphs.
  • Records

    Records were created 1906 by RCA Victor. The Victoria Model Record Player was the very first player that had multiple turntable speeds, that would lead to double sided records.
  • LPS

    LPS stands for long playing records. It created the term “album” because people are now able to record and market multiple songs on a single record.
  • Compact Cassette

    In 1963 the Philips Company introduced the Compact Cassette. This was the first type of music player that was portable, it was smaller and less expensive than previous music players.
  • Compact Disk

    In 1982 James Russell invented the Compact Disk. The compact disk was also know as CD’s. The music player hold more memory and is easy to transport. CD’s can store more that just music, and it was often use to preserve data.
  • Mp3

    The mp3 was created at Erlangen-Nuremberg University in Germany by a team of students led by Professor Heinz Gerhauser. The MPs uses MPEG 1 or MPEG 2 audio to use data compression to store audio on a where music was downloaded on the internet.
  • IPods

    Steve Jobs, creator of Apple, invented the iPod in 2000. It’s is the post portable size out there. The iPod holds 5GB of music. It now hold audio books, apps, games, music, and can sync online.
  • Music apps for phone and devices

    Now in September of 2019 we have apps that can be downloaded on a phone, computer, and iPad. The apps that are used to listen to music are YouTube, Spotify, and iTunes.
