Gail Atwater was driving her truck in Lago Vista, Texas until police pulled her over. -
Two Kids in the front seat
Her two children were not wearing seat belts and were sitting in the front seat. -
Atwater is arrested
The police observed the seat belt violations and decided to arrest her in front of the kids. -
Kids Taken Home by Neighbor
A passing neighbor was kind enough to watch the kids so that they did not have to go to the police station. -
Atwater has a mugshot taken
When Gail was at the police station, the officers had her get a mugshot taken. -
Atwater is held in jail for an hour
After the mugshot, the police held Atwater in a cell for an hour until she was released on bail. -
The case went to local court
Atwater and her husband didn't think what happened was right, so they took the case to court. -
Case was taken to the Supreme Court
After the case was heard in local court, the judge decided that the case conflicted with the constitution and it was sent to the Supreme Court. -
Case was decided
The Supreme Court came to the conclusion that the officer did not violate her Fourth Amendment rights.
