  • ATTACK ON PEARL HARBOR

    It was on December 7, 1941, when Japanese airplanes dove from the sky and attacked Pearl Harbour in Hawaii. In just a few hours Japanese sank or damaged all of the battleships, more than 2.400 Americans were killed and the next day the United States declared war on Japan. WORK CITED PAGE

  • BATTLE OF EL ALAMEIN

    Rommel, a German General, began an offensive to take Egypt. The British troops, led by General Bernard Montgomery stopped the Afrika Korps in this battle in July. Another British troop led by General Dwight D. Eisenhower attacked the west making the Afrika Korps surrendered in May 1943. WORK CITED PAGE

  • BATTLE OF STALINGRAD

    German forces advanced to Stalingrad, but the Soviet leader, Joseph Stalin, was determined to defend it. German supplies began to run desperately low but Hitler remained determined to capture Stalingrad. In late January, the German Commander surrendered, defying Hitler, to save his remaining troops.   • D-DAY INVASION

    American, British and Canadian troops invaded France, despite heavily armed German soldiers waited on the beaches in bombproof bunkers. By the end of D-Day, the five beaches were secure and later the Allies began moving east through France and countryside toward Germany. WORK CITED PAGE

  • VE DAY

    After many battles and German defeats, Allied forces found that Hitler committed suicide in his underground bunker. Germans surrendered and the war in Europe has finally come to an end, which the Allies celebrated with the Victory in Europe Day. WORK CITED PAGE

  • JAPAN SURRENDERS

    After testing the Manhattan Project, which consisted of an atomic bomb, President Truman gave the order to use it against Japan because they refused to an unconditional surrender. On August 6 they destroyed the city of Hiroshima and three days later, the city of Nagasaki. More than 100.000 people died and Japan finally surrendered.
