After the Attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S took two weeks until they attacked Japan with their air force. They didn't attack with their Navy though because the U.S n\knew the Japanese were expecting that and they had a force strong enough to destroy their fleet if they got into their seas. -

After the devasting attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S started to rebuild its forces very quickly thanks to the Japanese not destroying their repair installations. It took some time, but the fleet ended up even more powerful than before.
