    Democritus

    Democritus
He was born in Abdera, Greece. Democritus was a Greek philosopher who lived between 470-380 B.C. He developed the concept of the atom, Greek for indivisible. Democritus believed that everything in the universe was made up of atoms, which were microscopic and indestructible. Died in greece.
  • John Dalton

    John Dalton
They lived in the 1800's. He lived in Eaglesfield, United Kingdom. John Dalton invented the Dalton's atomic theory. Dalton's atomic theory proposed that all matter was composed of atoms indivisible and building blocks of matter and can not be destroyed. Dalton's experiments on gases led to his discovery that the total pressure of a mixture of gases amounted to the sum of the partial pressures that each individual gas exerted while occupying the same space.

    J.J. Thomson

They lived in the 1900's. He lived in Cheetham Hill near Manchester, England. J.J. Thomson invented the plum pudding atomic model. The plum pudding represents an important step in the development of atomic theory. The plum pudding model of the atom, which had negatively charged electrons embedded within a positively charged soup. English physicist who helped revolutionize the knowledge of atomic structure by his discovery of the electron 1897.
  • Ernest Rutherford

    Ernest Rutherford
he lived in the 1900's. He lived in brightwater, New Zealand. Ernest Rutherford postulated the nuclear structure of the atom, discovered alpha and beta rays, and proposed the laws of radioactive decay. He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1908. Rutherford overturned thomson's model in 1911 with his well known gold foil experiment in which he demonstrated that the atom has a tiny and heavy nucleus.
  • Niel Bohr

    Niel Bohr
He lived in the 1900's. He lived in copenhagen, Denmark. He made the Bohr Planetary Model. In 1913 niels bohr proposed a theory for the hydrogen atom based on quantum theory that energy is transferred only in certain well defined quantities.
  • Erwin Schrodinger

    Erwin Schrodinger
He lived around the 1900's. He lived in Erdberg, vienna, Austria. It consisted of a dense nucleus surrounded by a cloud of electrons at various levels in orbitals. Schrödinger and Werner Heisenburg 1901-1976 mathematically determined regions in which electrons would be most likely found.
