Democritus who was a Greek philosopher was born c. 460 bce and died c. 370 Democritus was a central figure in the development of philosophical atomism and of the atomic theory of the universe.
Democritus believed these atoms were external and invisible so small that their size cannot be diminished. -

Aristotle
Aristotle did not believe in the atomic theory He thought that all materials on Earth were not made of atoms, but of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air. He believed all substances were made of small amounts of these four elements of matter.
