democritus´ atomic model
Democritus´ model stated that matter consists of invisible particles called atoms and a void (empty space). He stated that atoms were indivisible and unchangeable. Also that they are homogenous, meaning they have no internal structure. His atomic model was solid, and stated all atoms differ in size, shape, mass, position and arrangement, with a void exists between them. -
dalton´s atomic model
1.- All matter is made up of tiny particles called atoms
2.- All atoms of a given element are the same and different from atoms of anothe elements
3.- Atoms of two or more elements combine to form compounds
4.- A chemical reaction involves the rearrangement, separation, or combination of atoms. -
Plum Pudding
Thomson applied electricity to electrodes sealed in a glass tube, which produced streams of small particles called cathode ray. Because this were attracted to positevely charged electrode, Thomson realized that the particles in the ray must be negatively charged. Thomson proposed this model in which the electrons and protons are randomly distributed in a positively charged cloud. -
Rutherford´s atomic model
In Rutherford´s experiment, positevely chrged particles were aimed in a thin sheet of gold foil. Here he found that some of the particles were deflected as they passed through the gold foil, and few particles were deflected so much that they went back in the opposite direction. He realized that the protons must be contained in small, positevely charged región at the center of the atom, which he called the nucleus. He proposed that the electrons occupied the space surrounding and traveled. -
Schrödonger´s atomic model
Defined an orbital of an atom as: “The region of space that surrounds a nucleus in which two electrons may randomly move.” (which is the Quantum Model of Electrons). He said that electrons were constantly moving and didn’t have one definite or fixed position in the atom. Although, he said that the electrons were given probable regions which were “Atomic Orbitals”. Atomic Orbitals are sorted with energy levels and distributed between electron clouds.
