Atomic model timeline

  • 500 BCE

    The Alchemists

    The Alchemists
began examining the atomic theory where they would treat different metals and oars to change the structure of an item. though this failed they did create the Scientific process which would allow for the eventual discovery of the atom.
  • 460 BCE

    Democritus

    Democritus
contributed to the atomic theory by saying that everything is made up into tiny bits which are called atoms. He further understood that different shapes of the atoms gave them different properties. This was a basic understanding of atoms.
  • 427 BCE

    Plato

    Plato
introduced the atomic theory in which ideal geometric forms served as atoms. According to this it said that atoms were broken down mathematically into triangles that formed into elements.
  • Robert Boyle

    Robert Boyle
discovered that atoms must exist based on the relationship between pressure and volume of gas. This was called the Boyles law that said that because they fixed mass of gas can be compressed gas must be made of particles or atoms.
  • Antone lavoisier

    Antone lavoisier
credited to be the first person to make use of the atomic theory. He also came up with the law of conservation.
  • Billiard ball model

    Billiard ball model
John Dalton came up with the idea that atoms were the smallest particles of matter and envision them as solid hard spears like billiard balls.
  • John Dalton

    John Dalton
created his own atomic theory saying that everything is composed of atoms which are invisible building blocks of matter and cannot be destroyed.
  • Amedeo avogadro

    Amedeo avogadro
came up with the idea that equal volumes of all gases at the same temperature and pressure contain equal numbers of molecules. He also discovered that elements could exist as molecules instead of individual Atoms.
  • Dmitri Mendeleev

    Dmitri Mendeleev
found that when all non-chemical elements are arranged in order of increasing atomic weight the resulting table displayed in a reoccurring pattern. This was within groups of elements.
  • JJ Thompson

    JJ Thompson
created the discovery of the electron which is the negatively charged particle in the atom.
  • the curies

    the curies
came up with the atomic theory of matter and later discovered a new element isolate radium which had the ability to spontaneously disintegrate into other elements. This proves that the atoms of one element at least we’re not invisible.
  • The plum pudding model

    The plum pudding model
Thompson proposed the The plum pudding model which shows how electrons are surrounded by a volume of positively charged particles.
  • Albert Einstein

    Albert Einstein
was able to fully approved through the usage of evidence that Adams did indeed exist, and he was also able to demonstrate that the electrons could leave metal through usage of light.
  • Ernest Rutherford

    Ernest Rutherford
created a model describing the structure of atoms. This model describe the atom has a tiny, dense, positively charged core called a nucleus which the light, negative constitutes is called electrons, circulate at some distance
  • Robert Millikan

    Robert Millikan
thought that his cosmic ray photos were new Adams continuously being created to help prevent heat death.
  • Neil’s Bohr

    Neil’s Bohr
proposed a model of the atom in which the electron was able to occupy only certain orbits around the nucleus. This atomic model was one of the first to use the quantum theory.
  • Henry GJ Mosely

    Henry GJ Mosely
demonstrated that the major properties of an element are determined by the atomic number not by the atomic weight. Additionally he firmly establish relationships between atomic numbers and the charge of the atomic nucleus.
  • solar system model

    solar system model
was illustrated to show relative positions in motions of the planets and moons in the solar system.
  • Werner Heisenberg

    Werner Heisenberg
contributed to the atomic theory through formulating quantum mechanics in terms of matrix and discovering the uncertainty principle which states that a particles position and momentum can be both known exactly.
  • electron cloud model

    electron cloud model
was created by Erwin Schrödinger and Warner haisenberg. The model was a way to help visualize the most probable positions of electrons in an atom.
  • Erwin schrodinger

    Erwin schrodinger
worked on the wave particle theory coming up with an equation that treated the electrons of hydrogen atoms as a wave. This model worked on other elements and the equation is called the quantum mechanical model of the atom.
  • James chadwich

    James chadwich
discovered that the nucleus contain a particle called a neutron that carries no electric charge.
