Democritus Atom
Democritus was the first person with the idea of the atom. He said that for things like water the atoms were round so they can roll over each other. On the other hand materials like iron are like squares so the can't roll off of each other -
Plum Pudding Model
The Plum Model was invented by J.J. Thompson in 1904. First found that there were electrons in the middle in 1897. His idea was that there were electrons in the center and protons surrounding it in the near by area. -
Rutherford Model
The Rutherford Model was formulated by Earnest Rutherford. It consisted of The nucleus in the middle with electrons surrounding it. This model, he thought, was accurate because of an experiment with gold foil. -
Solar System Model
This idea of an atom was founded by Neils Bohr. The main idea of the model is that the nucleus in the middle and electrons orbit around it. Today many people refer the atom to this model because it is simple and it accurately shows the energy levels. -
Standard Model
The Standard Model of the atom is a very complex, but accurate way of showing what a atom looks like. It i mainly for physicists and scientists. It looks like it has a spheres around the nucleus that electrons can be anywhere in those spheres until you look. The nucleus is made of protons and neutrons.
